Francesca Maria Toma
CSD Staff Scientist; Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP)
Francesca is a Materials Staff Scientist in the Chemical Sciences Division at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. She earned my Ph.D. in Biophysics from the International School of Advanced Studies in Italy in 2009. She then moved to the University of California, Santa Barbara as a Marie Curie Researcher in 2011, and to the University of California, Berkeley in 2013. She now is the Materials Integration Thrust Coordinator and one of the 32 PIs of the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP), which is a DOE funded project with Caltech and LBNL as major partner institutions. In 2016, I was the recipient of a prize for a prestigious young chemist from the Italian National Academy of Science for my prolific, high-quality scientific contributions in different aspects of nanotechnology. With a very interdisciplinary background, at LBNL, she manages a complex portfolio of research activities that span the synthesis and advanced characterization of electrocatalysts and photoelectrocatalysts for carbon dioxide reduction and water oxidation.

MICHELLE LEE
Graduate Student Reserch Affiliate; JOINT CENTER FOR ARTIFICIAL PHOTOSYNTHESIS (JCAP)
Michelle is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry at Cornell University.
At JCAP, she is working on catalyst development for electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction. She is especially interested in tuning the catalytic environment to improve the activity and selectivity of catalysts. The scopes of her works include both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis.
Gabriele Panzeri
VISITING PhD STUDENT; JOINT CENTER FOR ARTIFICIAL PHOTOSYNTHESIS (JCAP)

Patrick Yorkgitis
Undergraduate Researcher; Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP)
Patrick, a senior in Chemistry at UC Berkeley, is primarily interested in inorganic synthesis, catalysis, and materials chemistry as applied to renewable energy production, energy storage, and environmental remediation. He is currently investigating metal organic frameworks and covalent organic frameworks for electrocatalytically reducing carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide, formic acid, and other valuable compounds. Outside of the lab, Patrick works as an undergraduate student instructor, cooks and bakes prolifically, and is pursuing a minor in acting.
